She was the Pet of the Month for Penthouse Magazine for October 2001.

Her first pair of scenes in the adult business were with Ed Powers and Don Fernando; however she later said that she felt pressured into performing with them and that her goal from the start was to perform girl/girl only.[3] Early on, she did several boy/girl photo shoots under the name "Kayla" that can been seen in Foxes magazine.

After several years of performing only in lesbian scenes, Teanna Kai began working in heterosexual hardcore films in 2006, filming scenes with her then-boyfriend.[6]

Kai mentioned in one interview that while she has done a lot within the adult industry, she was trying to keep it low-key to minimize the chances of her parents finding out what she does for a living.
